Short answer: unlikely. Rebound anxiety is what can happen when someone comes off a drug their body has adapted to, like long-term Xanax. CBD doesn't work that way. The World Health Organization's 2018 review found no signs that CBD causes abuse or dependence.
So why do people ask? Usually because the CBD wore off and the stress came back, or because it never really hit and they're wondering if something went wrong. Most of the time the explanation is simpler than rebound. Most CBD is made by heating hemp, and the CBD that comes out of that process is poorly absorbed. Less gets in, so it fades fast or barely registers.
Hemp naturally grows CBDA, not CBD. Researchers found raw CBDA is absorbed over 500% better than the heat-converted CBD in most products. That's why we make a hemp gummy with CBDA that was never cooked.

What rebound anxiety actually is
Rebound anxiety is when anxious feelings come back stronger after cutting down or stopping a medication. It's tied to dependence: the brain gets used to a drug, and when it's gone, it takes a while to rebalance.
The classic examples are benzodiazepines like Xanax, Valium and Ativan, and some prescription sleep aids. That's why doctors taper people off them slowly instead of stopping all at once.
Why CBD is a different story
CBD isn't in that category. It isn't intoxicating, and the WHO's review found no evidence of dependence potential. There's no "coming off it" crash to plan around the way there is with those medications.
What people do notice is the effect ending. You feel calmer for a few hours, then you're back to baseline. That's not rebound. That's the dose running out, and with poorly absorbed CBD it can run out quickly.
If you take prescription medication, or your anxiety is getting in the way of daily life, talk with your doctor. CBD and CBDA are not a substitute for medical care, and CBD can interact with some medications.
Why most CBD fades fast
- It's been heated. Processors cook hemp to turn its natural CBDA into CBD. The CBD you end up with is the poorly absorbed form.
- Small doses. Many gummies carry 10 to 25mg of CBD, and a lot of that doesn't get used once swallowed.
- Stop-and-start use. Taking it now and then, at random times, makes it hard to feel anything steady.
The fix: hemp that wasn't cooked
CBDA is hemp's original form. Skip the heat and it stays CBDA, and researchers found it's absorbed over 500% better than heat-converted CBD. More of what you take actually gets used.
That's the whole reason we exist. Want the longer version? Read What is CBDA? or our piece on anxiety after CBD wears off.

Quick answers
Can you get withdrawal from CBD?
There's no good evidence of CBD withdrawal. If you're on other medications, check with your doctor before changing anything.
Is it rebound if my stress comes back after CBD wears off?
Most likely not. That's the effect ending, not a new effect caused by CBD.
Does CBDA cause rebound?
CBDA is the natural form of CBD in hemp, and there's no evidence it causes dependence either.
