So many extracts, strains, and types of cannabis oil on the market.
Is it a gimmick? Which one is better for me?
Most companies selling refined live resin have a good product CoA, so it should be fine.
We will break this one down, but from what I can tell from product analysis, its mostly hype.
Refined live resin is a type of cannabis concentrate that provides users with a pure and raw form of active cannabinoids and terpene flavor. It is a result of the live resin process, followed by a purification process that removes some of the unwanted plant material typically found after extraction.
Whether you are a seasoned cannabis user or a curious beginner, this article will offer insights into the live resin curing process and tips for finding the best refined live resin products.
Article Highlights
- Refined live resin represents a unique cannabis concentrate, and is basically a live resin extraction followed by purification.
- Compared to other typical cannabis extracts, refined live resin does not differ that much since many distillates also add back the terpenes from the purification process.
- While consumption methods include vaporizers, dab rigs, edibles, and e-nails, refined live resin tends to be pricier than other cannabis extracts due to the additional steps involved in its extraction process.
What is Live Resin?
Live resin, a premium cannabis concentrate, stands out for its extraction from fresh cannabis flowers that is preserved at the time of harvest. The innovative live resin process employs cryogenic flash freezing immediately after harvest, effectively preserving the valuable terpenes and terpenoids within the plant. This advanced preservation method guarantees that the live resin extract retains an abundance of compounds typically found in dry sift hash while incorporating additional terpenes for unparalleled flavor profiles.
It's no wonder live resin sauce has become a beloved cannabis product, particularly in Central California.
Users can enjoy live resin through various consumption methods, such as smoking cannabis flower or utilizing a live resin vape. The extraction process combines pressure, low heat, and agitation to isolate and extract from the trichomes which house a lot of the plant's natural compounds.
Distinct from other cannabis concentrates, live resin is typically devoid of artificial flavors or additives, solidifying its status as a highly coveted product among cannabis connoisseurs. Lab results consistently reveal that live resins boast elevated levels of terpenes, contributing to their renowned potency.
What is Refined Live Resin?
Refined live resin has emerged as a premium cannabis concentrate, garnering widespread attention in recent years. Derived from cannabis flowers (either hemp or marijuana) harvested at their peak, this concentrate undergoes a meticulous process to preserve its potency and effectiveness. By cryogenically flash freezing the plant material and employing a closed system for extraction, it maintains most of the terpenes from the plant.
The extracted resin is then put through a purification process, typically short path distillation, which separates the terpenes and cannabinoids. The cannabinoids are decarboxylated in this process, and do not represent the original acidic forms found in the natural flower.
Terpenes that were separated are then added back in to the cannabinoid oil at the end.

The Unique Flavor Profile of Refined Live Resin
One of the most distinguishing features of Refined Live Resin is its exquisite taste, achieved through an extraction method that utilizes low temperatures and pressure to eliminate impurities from the plant material. Boasting a harmonious blend of citrus, earthy, spicy, and fresh berry notes, the flavor profile of refined live resin is reminiscent of the strain from which it is derived.
The resulting concentrate is entirely oil-soluble and devoid of any unwanted additives or waxes.
The Advantages of Using Refined Live Resin
While many producers talk of refined live resin diamonds, an isolate level of purity of cannabinoids, there is not much difference in the end product.
Many of the better distillate level oils all have high purity and original terpenes in the final oil.
Most of the benefits of these "unique" extractions were compared to inferior producers that arose early in the industry life cycle. While there are still many grades of product out there, a lot of high quality manufacturers have much better product than what was originally on the market.
Comparing Live Resin and Refined Live Resin
Although live resin and refined live resin share similarities, they differ significantly in their purification techniques. Live resin employs light heat and pressure to extract compounds from the plant material, typically isolated trichomes. This is the final step for the live resin oil production, and usually contains other plant material that some consumers want.
Whereas refined live resin relies on a distillation method that eliminates all undesired waxes, resulting in a cleaner finished product with minimal residue. Moreover, refined live resin preserves a greater proportion of the plant's natural terpenes compared to other concentrates, ultimately delivering a high-quality and more effective product.
The Pros and Cons of Refined Live Resin
Refined live resin, like any cannabis product, has its advantages and disadvantages. Here, are the pros and cons of using refined live resin:
Advantages
Enhanced terpene content: Refined live resin boasts a higher terpene content compared to other common cannabis extracts, leading to a richer flavor and aroma. The concentrate is also more potent due to the high levels of THC and other cannabinoids.
Powerful entourage effects: Owing to its high terpene concentration, refined live resin provides a more potent and long-lasting effect in comparison to other cannabis extracts.
Versatility: Refined live resin can be utilized in various ways, such as dabbing, vaping, and incorporating into edibles.
Disadvantages
Increased cost: Refined live resin is generally more expensive than other cannabis extracts due to the extra steps required during the extraction process.
Intense effects: While the powerful effects of refined live resin may be appealing to some, they could be overwhelming for those seeking a milder cannabis experience.
Does not contain the original acidic cannabinoids: The cannabis flower grown and isolated without purification contains mostly CBDA/THCA, the natural precursors to CBD/THC. These are not found in products that use distillation purification.
How to Use Refined Live Resin
In order to get the most out of your refined live resin, try following these usage options:
Vaporizers
The most popular and efficient method for consuming refined live resin is through a vaporizer specifically designed for concentrates. Look for models that allow for precise temperature control to ensure optimal vaporization of the resin.
Dab Rigs
Dabbing is another common way to enjoy refined live resin. A dab rig is a specialized type of water pipe that allows users to heat the concentrate on a "nail" and inhale the vapor through the mouthpiece.
E-nails
Electric nails, or e-nails, are an alternative to traditional dab rigs. They offer the advantage of precise temperature control and a more consistent heat source, resulting in a smoother dabbing experience.
Where to Find Refined Live Resin
Several options are available for sourcing refined live resin, such as:Licensed Dispensaries: Your location may determine if you can purchase refined live resin from an authorized cannabis dispensary. These dispensaries often carry an assortment of cannabis concentrates, including refined live resin, and can offer guidance on proper dosage and use.
Online Vendors: Numerous online vendors also sell refined live resin. While it can be convenient to buy cannabis products online, it's crucial to verify that you're purchasing from a trustworthy provider that adheres to all local laws and regulations.
Always check for a Certificate of Analysis (CoA) to make sure your product contains what they say it does.
Cannabis Gatherings: In certain regions, cannabis events may present an opportunity to buy refined live resin directly from producers or suppliers. These gatherings are an excellent way to expand your knowledge about the product and network with fellow cannabis enthusiasts.
Tips for New Refined Live Resin Users
If you're new to using refined live resin, it's essential to approach it with mindfulness and caution. Here are some tips to help you navigate the experience:- Start with a small dose: As with any cannabis product, it's crucial to start with a small dose and gradually increase it as needed. This will help you understand your tolerance level and ensure a comfortable experience.
- Choose the right consumption method: As mentioned earlier, refined live resin can be consumed through dabbing, vaping, or edibles. Choose the method that works best for you, and make sure to follow the proper usage guidelines for each method.
- Be mindful of the effects: Refined live resin is known for its potent effects, so be prepared for an intense experience. Make sure you're in a comfortable setting and have a plan in place if the effects become too strong.
- Store properly: To maintain the quality of your refined live resin, store it in an airtight container away from direct sunlight and heat. This will help preserve its potency and flavor.
Conclusion
In summary, live resin is a form of cannabis concentrate that's made using fresh flowers with high terpenes. The process involves freezing the plants and then extracting the oils from them by means of pressure and heat. This method results in an extract that contains more terpenes than traditional concentrates, as well as cannabinoids like THC and CBD.We dont think there is much difference between this product and other high quality distillate oils that also have terpenes added back in.
Live resin can be vaped or dabbed to produce effects similar to those of other types of cannabis extracts; however, because it's made with fresh flowers rather than dried buds (like shatter), it has a much stronger taste profile--one that may be too intense for some users' tastes. If you're looking for something milder but still flavorful, consider trying rosin instead!
